FAQs

Does your practice accept insurance?

Golden Crest Counseling, LLC is considered an out-of-network provider with all insurances. This means that you would be required to pay for all therapy sessions and services upfront, and then we would provide you with a monthly superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The difference in what a client pays, versus what their insurance company will reimburse them for, is typically similar to their regular copay amount. If this is your first time working with an out-of-network provider, please don't hesitate to ask questions. We'd be more than happy to help!

What should I ask my insurance company before starting therapy?

Before starting your child in therapy, it is recommended that you contact your insurance company prior to the initiation of counseling services. Some of the following questions may be useful for understanding your benefits and what is covered: -"Do you cover out-of-network services for mental health?" If the answer is "yes," ask, "Do I need a referral from an in-network provider or primary care physician to see someone out-of-network?" -"What is my deductible for out-of-network mental health services?" and "How much of my deductible has been met this year?" -"What is the reimbursement rate after my deductible has been met?" -"Do I have a limit for the number of sessions annually?" -"Could I attend a session more than once a week and still be reimbursed?" -"How do I submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement?" -"Do you cover telehealth (online therapy sessions)?"

How do we get started?

Begin by scheduling your free, 15-minute phone consultation. This can be done by completing the survey that is linked on the "Services" page of the website. After the phone consultation, you should be able to determine if the therapist is a good fit for your child. If so, you would receive some paperwork, which would need to be completed before scheduling an intake session. Intake sessions are the first appointments where the therapist can gather background information from the parent or caregiver (such as the family health history) before working with their child. Intake sessions are usually 1 hour long. Typically, the parent will meet with the therapist by themself first, in order to review all of the paperwork and policies, before determining the child's initial therapy schedule.

How often should my child go to therapy?

When your child is just starting therapy, it's important that they develop a positive and trusting relationship with their therapist. This typically takes about 1-2 months, and it is recommended that your child attend therapy sessions on a weekly basis to build rapport. Once a positive therapeutic relationship is established and your child is comfortable working with their therapist, then the sessions may be farther apart (i.e. biweekly). Eventually, as your child begins to make progress and consistently demonstrate growth, then the sessions may be scheduled monthly for skills maintenance. Overall, the amount of sessions is a collective decision made by the parent, child, and therapist working together.

Is there available parking nearby?

Street parking is available throughout the week at $2 an hour. However, parking is free on Sundays, most holidays, and Monday through Saturday after 5 PM. The street parking meters use the Park Mobile Smartphone App. In order to use it, simply download the app and set up an account. When you are parked (between 9 AM-5 PM Monday-Saturday), look for the Park Mobile Zone Number and Parking Space Number on the meter. You will have to enter this information into the app, and select your parking duration prior to entering the building for therapy sessions. Unfortunately, there are no handicap parking spaces directly outside of the practice. However, arrangements can be made to reserve accessible parking and room access upon request.

How do I get into the building?

For security, our building utilizes keycodes for entry. Your child's therapist will let you in during your initial intake session, and take you to your room. After the intake is complete, if you decide to continue pursuing therapy for your child, their therapist will provide you with a unique key code (as well as instructions for building entry).

Can I wait inside while my child is in their therapy session?

There is a waiting room just inside the main entrance, with a fully stocked minifridge of refreshments. Please help yourself! Upstairs, there is another seating area, where you are welcome to sit or work until your child's therapy session is done. We also have a restroom that is available for use upstairs, but please note that it is not considered handicap-accessible.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my child's therapy session?

You should reach out to your child's therapist via phone, email, or the Sessions Health portal to communicate a cancellation or rescheduling request. All requests for session cancellation or rescheduling must occur within 24 hours of the appointment. Cancellations made with less notice will result in the full session charge. Please note that showing up more than 15 minutes late will be considered a missed appointment, in which case the full session amount will still be charged.
